FOREST SOUND CAMP

A camping-style all-night rave presented by Universal Music Box/UMB, a crew that has been putting on events across Tokyo's club scene. The project was launched by members who grew up close to the forest and studied forestry, built around the concept of "coexistence between forests and music." The setting is Ooba Camp Village in Hinode Town, Nishitama — an area where roughly 80% of the land is forest. Dance music culture nurtured in the city center is carried into the forests of Tokyo, alongside hands-on experiences such as splitting firewood from Tama-grown timber and silkscreen printing. As sound from the UK's VOID Acoustics resonates through the trees, the two days run from midday through to the following morning, leaving each person free to encounter the forest and the music in their own way. It's an experiment in forging a new relationship with the forest, with music as the point of entry.
