750,000 people pass through JR Osaka Station each day — and the floor sits directly above its platforms
Monday, October 12, a national holiday. On the rooftop of the bridge-style station building spanning the platforms of JR Osaka Station, the 5F "Toki no Hiroba" plaza of Osaka Station City becomes a dancefloor for four hours only, from 18:00. The lineup: Daito Manabe, 食品まつり a.k.a. Foodman, Kuniyuki Takahashi, and machìna — three of the four performing LIVE SETS. A techno rave held at the busiest crossing point of a station still in full operation.

What is ONDO LAND
An Osaka-born music community that stages musical experiences in public spaces and unique venues, resonating with the memory and atmosphere of each site. Its predecessor was "OSAKA STATION RAVE" in October 2025 — a rave held inside the ticket gates of JR Osaka Station after the last train, capped at 100 people and lasting just three hours. Sound ringing out in an emptied station, people dancing. It was an experiment in whether a station, as public space, could become a venue by night.
A year on, the stage shifts from inside the gates to directly above the station. Not a deserted station at midnight, but the plaza of a station in full operation. All around are people heading home from shopping, people waiting to meet friends, people watching the trains. Placing the extraordinary space of a rave inside that everyday scene is the aim this time.

The repetition of steel trusses, the passing of trains, and the techno beat
The venue occupies the rooftop of the bridge-style station building that straddles the platforms, linking the North Gate Building and the South Gate Building. Positioned at the heart of one of western Japan's largest terminals, this open space beneath the great roof looks out over the trains pulling into the platforms below and the ceaseless flow of people. The "Gold Clock" and "Silver Clock" set at its north and south ends are long-beloved meeting points at Osaka Station.
The great roof covering the plaza is an industrial structure of 17 rows of steel trusses. Identically shaped frames repeat at fixed intervals, extending as far as the eye can follow. Techno, too, is music of repetition — the same beat recurring while shifting little by little. Different rhythms layering within a single space.

Three LIVE SETS, and the man behind Rhizomatiks
In a LIVE SET, modular synths and drum machines are handled directly, with rhythms and textures assembled on the spot. The heat of the floor feeds straight back into the sound. Add Daito Manabe to the mix, and the result is a night where music and technology intersect, with techno at its core.
Daito Manabe
Artist, programmer, composer. He founded Rhizomatiks in 2006 and has presented work fusing programming, music, visuals and physical expression both in Japan and abroad. For the Tokyo handover ceremony at the closing of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he developed the staging technology and the visual and lighting systems. Continuing collaborations with Perfume, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk and Squarepusher, he generates music and imagery from the behavior of life and intelligence, deploying the results in live performances and public spaces.

Foodman(LIVE SET)
Electronic musician from Nagoya. Since debuting in 2012 he has released on labels in Japan and overseas and performed at Unsound and Boiler Room. Yasuragi Land, released on the UK's 〈Hyperdub〉 in 2021, was named among Pitchfork's best of the year, and July 2026 saw his latest work HIKARIGASASHIKOMU arrive on the same label. Known for a singular sound where Okinawan roots cross with Chicago footwork, he also serves as an NTS Radio resident.

Kuniyuki Takahashi(LIVE SET)
Producer based in Sapporo. Releases on Joe Claussell's 〈Natural Resource〉 and 〈Mule Musiq〉 won him support from DJs worldwide, and in 2018 the Dutch label 〈Music From Memory〉 issued his past works from the '80s and '90s. In recent years he has performed across Europe, South Africa and Brazil, and has played session live sets with Henrik Schwarz and Floating Points. He is known for a distinctive live style that fuses improvisation with dance music.

machìna(LIVE SET)
Korean-born artist based between Tokyo and Berlin. Known for live sets combining vocals with improvisation centered on modular synths, she has performed at MUTEK Japan and Berlin's Berghain, and in 2023 joined Richie Hawtin on tour across Europe and the US. Alongside appearances on a Tresor compilation and a feature on Bicep's "Hawk," she has collaborated with Prada, Miu Miu and NIKE.

The sound system is TW AUDIO, widely adopted at rave sites, configured to suit the spatial characteristics of the plaza.
