From 20:00 on October 24 through 7:00 the next morning. Topia brings Evian Christ to Japan for a show on the Sotobō coast of Chiba. Private land inside Narita Airport; a plot in Sagamihara where earth excavated from the maglev construction is piled high. For a crew that has built its reputation on off-site parties, this marks their first indoor venue. Baptiste Schaller and etheri also travel in from abroad.

Who is Topia

A crew based around the greater Kantō area, throwing off-site parties. They started out in 2021 with a small music event staged as an assignment at Musashino Art University. Their theme: "offering time outside the everyday." They hold events once or twice a year, on no fixed schedule.

Flipping the usual relationship—music as the lead, space as the supporting act—to "make the space the lead." Enormous video projections, objects floating out on the sea, hand-built lighting systems. Every time they change location, they design the space for that single night from scratch.

They have always chosen stages no one else would use

On a patch of private land still remaining within the grounds of Narita Airport, they built a space modeled on a vinyl greenhouse, drawing on the farming landscape that once stood there. At the Manazuru Peninsula, they raised a tipi and projected visuals onto a sphere floating on the sea. They have also co-hosted twice with みんなのきもち.

With each edition the scale has crept up, and in 2025 they staged a party on land in Sagamihara where soil excavated from the Linear Chūō Shinkansen tunnel works is being heaped into a man-made mountain. On that vast empty lot they assembled a structure out of stage trussing, with KEN ISHII and Mars89 on the bill.

An underground temple the sun never reaches

The venue is on the Sotobō coast of Chiba. The exact location is disclosed only to ticket holders. What the organizers call an "underground temple the sun never reaches"—a concrete space no one has yet set foot in—becomes the floor for this one night.

It's roughly an hour and a half from Tokyo Station to the nearest station with no transfers, and there's a shuttle from the station to the venue. If you're driving, a venue parking ticket is required; there is no public parking within walking distance. The organizers have exactly one warning: sunglasses mandatory.

The underground space that will serve as the venue

The originator of the new-generation trance rave, back in Japan after two years

Evian Christ, the UK producer the organizers introduce as "the originator of the new-generation trance rave." He made his name contributing production to Kanye West's Yeezus, and in 2023 released the album Revanchist on Warp Records. He's equally known for running his own party, 〈Trance Party〉, and has previously played Fuji Rock. This is his first time back in Japan since his 2024 show at WWW in Shibuya.

Switzerland's Baptiste Schaller works in contemporary trance and techno, and has just put out new material on Mizuha 罔象, the label run by みんなのきもち. Mexico-based etheri delivers ambient techno via hybrid set.
