WHAT IS SAWAGI FESTIVAL

A camp-in open-air festival. Held in Yamanashi for years, it moves to Gunma in 2026, its eleventh edition. The organisers' banner phrase: "deepening and expansion."

Fifty-eight acts across two stages, with DECO / ART and VJ / LIGHTING teams shaping the site. Tickets are three-day passes only. The tent site is free, and the whole thing is built around staying on site for the duration.

The venue is SUTEKI VILLAGE CAMPING in Higashiagatsuma, Agatsuma District, Gunma. Roughly 33,000 square metres of mountain grounds, with auto sites, free sites and sectioned plots spread across them. A sky full of stars at night; the sun climbing off the horizon in the morning.

On site there are showers, toilets, washrooms and a kitchen. For the festival, the flat grass tent site is free to use, and auto-camping plots of around 100㎡ are also available. A shuttle bus runs from Shibuya.

100 keyboards, and psychedelic rock formed in 1993

Six live acts. ASUNA + Opitope pairs ASUNA — whose performance piece "100 Keyboards," using one hundred keyboards, has taken him to festivals abroad and to BAM in New York — with Opitope, formed in 2002 by Tomoyoshi Date and Chihei Hatakeyama. SOFT, formed in 1993, is a band working in the lineage of psychedelic rock. Black Boboi, HENTAI CAMERAMAN, Masafumi Take & Sabatoj and SUEPON follow.

Names that have held up Japan's club scene for decades

Fifty-two DJs. DJ KENSEI, DJ KURI, DJ SODEYAMA, DJ ZEN, COMPUMA — the latter also known as a buyer at Osaka's NEWTONE RECORDS.

TAKAAKI ITOH, who runs the label WOLS; OCCA, who has kept "Archiv" going at Sapporo's Precious Hall; YSK, who runs the Kitakyushu venue α and has played Berghain. Also Mari Sakurai, REE.K, YAMA, Herbalistek, Riyo Sanmyaku and more. Sapporo, Osaka, Kitakyushu. DJs who have built scenes in their own cities converge on a mountain in Gunma.

DECO / ART comes from six crews: Bivouac, Bubble Art Onchi, HEAVEN HUG DESIGN, R領域, SAMAYA DESIGN and STONE63. VJ / LIGHTING is handled by four: comboy, DOT TV, idealsolution and sarunotuku.
