What is TREKs
This isn't a festival built solely around dance music. Some camp in the forest, some pass the hours in a hammock, some talk around a fire, children run through the trees, and others dance until morning. Everyone spends the time however they like, all while sharing a single space.
Beyond titles, generations and borders, it appears for just three days in the forest of Kuta, Kyoto, as a place where people connect loosely. Classics that have been listened to across the decades, and dance music in its present tense. Sensibilities cultivated around the world and culture nurtured across Japan intersect here in this forest.

A mountain valley within Kyoto City, close to the Shiga border
The venue is Daikokudani Campground at Kuta Shizen Katsuyo Mura. Though technically within the city, it sits in a mountain hamlet near the Shiga border, spreading out along a mountain stream. The surroundings are planted cedar and cypress alongside natural beech forest. At night, a sky full of stars opens overhead.
On site there are coin showers and renovated toilets, plus bungalows available for rent — facilities that make it workable for families with children too. Open fires on the ground are prohibited; use a fire pit stand or grill.
Access: from the Meishin Expressway's Kyoto-Higashi IC, take the Nishi-Otsu Bypass, Route 477 and Route 367, then turn left at Umenoki — about 14 minutes from there. As it's a mountain road, arriving before sunset is recommended.

The don from Portugal, and a B2B 15 years in the making
From Portugal comes Pena, who heads up Flow Records. The boss of the label that TREKs crew member masato.mt belongs to will play in a Kyoto forest. KIHIRA NAOKI, who has led Japan's dance music scene for years, arrives from Social Infection / P/A/S. DJ MAMEZUKA, whose singular groove draws people across generations, comes from Kikikaikai. And KAZUMA of TONE FLOAT, a figure who has helped shape TREKs' sonic identity, also appears as part of H.U.T. alongside masato.mt and dsk.

From Kanto, Primitive's ITA and Tez. Tez, also known for Boshke Beats / Ring, and ITA of Primitive / SIDE B bring a Kanto groove into the Kyoto woods. P.S.Morris takes it on with a live set driven by the AKAI MPC. G29 is a B2B between GYRO and 29, their first in 15 years. Elsewhere, DAICHI of Based On Kyoto, YU-I of ORBIT, STEW of TUFF DISCO, HOBO BRAZIL of bar bonobo and more gather from Kyoto and local scenes around the country.

There are plenty of ways to spend the time beyond the music
Pitch a tent under the trees, read a book in a hammock, walk along the stream. At night, gather around the fire with the stars overhead. In the morning, a stroll through the misty forest is just as good. Inaho Shokudo and Makado will be at the market, and pets are welcome on a lead.
The space is built by Sound Engineer Takashi Kamba, VJ NOMAD, Zone by OLEO, Decor by Rieko Miyatake and Keyco, Lighting by Tokimeki Lights, Laser by SPACE HAZE, Candle by Sekai wa Hitotsu Candle, Painter Kimi and Photographer MAYA.
