An open-air rave by a mountain lake in Itoigawa, Niigata, under the harvest moon
The curtain rises on the night of the full moon, September 25.
御月民 -OTSUKIMI- is, as its name suggests, an outdoor festival timed to coincide with the harvest moon. For its seventh edition in 2026, the setting is Healing Garden Takanami, on the shores of Lake Takanami at the northern tip of the Northern Alps in Itoigawa, Niigata. Sixteen acts from Japan and abroad will carry the three days through.
What is OTSUKIMI
An outdoor festival launched in 2019, held each year on the date of the harvest moon.
It has moved from Hakuba Village in Nagano to Lake Kawaguchi in Yamanashi, and since 2025 has made its home in Itoigawa, Niigata.
Its stated aim is to create a space where music, nature and art intersect. This is not simply a place where music is played: the stage, lighting, spatial design and live painting are all conceived as a single, unified environment. This year, a new spatial production team joins the fold.
A grassy lakeside, cradled by the Northern Alps
The venue, Healing Garden Takanami, sits on the shores of Lake Takanami at the northern edge of the Northern Alps. It's a campground surrounded by majestic peaks, with grass covering both the dancefloor and the campsites. The venue is a short walk from the parking area. There are two hot showers each for men and women, and two toilet blocks. You can camp here and spend all three days on site.
From Tokyo Station, it's roughly two hours to Itoigawa Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen Hakutaka. A shuttle bus runs between the station and the venue, so you can get there without a car. There's also hinata rental for those coming without camping gear, plus advance shipping for your equipment.
The line-up that will define the shape of these three days
The first name announced this year was Efdemin. His hypnotic approach, shot through with an unmistakable psychedelia, embodies the world OTSUKIMI is reaching for.
Spain's Mod.1 makes a first appearance this year, delivering deep, meditative techno in a vinyl set that draws out the texture of the records themselves.
Anthony Linell, head of Northern Electronics, has been entrusted with the late-night peak time on day two — a set that shifts with precision and dynamism from minimalism pared back to its absolute limit. This will be his only Japanese date on this occasion.
And headlining is .VRIL, whose live set — a fixture at festivals worldwide — will close out the three days as the grand finale.
DAY 1 / 9.25 FRI
The curtain rises on the night of the harvest moon
Things kick off at 17:00 with Mitayo, followed by So. From 21:00, a B2B between Hypnotic Black Magic and Qmico: Hypnotic Black Magic, who runs Art Bei Ton out of Berlin, alongside Qmico, who has been carving out a genuine originality within the scene in recent years. Two deep, hypnotic grooves intertwine.
From midnight, Haruka. How will she build on the new side she revealed in last year's closing slot? The full-moon night deepens, carried by the psychedelia that is her true calling.
DAY 2 / 9.26 SAT
From 9am to the small hours of the next morning — the longest day
Day two opens with a live set from Yoshitake EXPE., whose distinctive sound system — known as the space guitar — conjures soundscapes that evoke outer space and inner landscapes alike. Herbalistek follows with a psychedelia rooted in bass music but with a natural affinity for techno.
From 11:00, three hours from Yama; from 14:00, another three hours from Dsk and Soncho in their first-ever B2B in seven years. Trimming the daytime line-up and handing the reins to long sets is very much this year's design philosophy, prioritising a sense of collective immersion.
Mod.1 takes the 17:00 dusk slot, DJ HI-C opens the gateway to the night at 19:00, and Paula Koski follows at 21:00. Then at midnight, Anthony Linell takes on peak time.
DAY 3 / 9.27 SUN
From a morning live set to an evening finale
The final day begins at 9:00 with a live performance from HAPPY. Rock, exotica, new age and dance music tangle together in intricate ways, drawing the listener into the psychedelic.
From 10:00, Keita — an artist based amid the nature of Hakuba who has built his practice on connecting nature and sound, people and place. Inheriting the afterglow of the band's performance, he lays down a stretch of time where delicacy and tension coexist, setting the course towards the climax.
Efdemin plays from 12:00. Then at 15:00, a live set from .VRIL delivers the grand finale. At 18:00, the three-day journey comes to an end.
Nine production teams, two sound systems
Stage, lighting, spatial design, live painting. The venue is treated as a single unified space, with every element combined into one integrated production. This year sees nine teams involved, including Heaven Hug Design, hidari-kiki CREATION, NORARI WORKS and Samaya Design. Live painting is handled by 密.
The sound is configured differently for each stage. The main stage is powered by OtOdashi, a system that has been upgraded year on year; this time around, a significantly more powerful rig than last year's will be installed. The second stage runs on L-Acoustics, pushing each artist's performance to its fullest on the grass floor.
And after the festival proper, there's one more chapter
New for this year, an after-party will be held at the same venue once the main festival wraps. Curation is in the hands of 音浴, a Hakuba-based crew known for their wide-ranging musical approach. CHOKO, SUNGA, Flying 420, Jellyfish, YAMAHAL and shajka Jo will sound out the final hours in a venue still glowing with the afterimage of the harvest moon.
Around 25 food and merchandise stalls will line the grounds. As last year, workshops themed around matcha, yoga and fragrance are also planned. Beyond the hours spent dancing, there are plenty of reasons to be here.
